Licence Agreement
Version: September 2026. This agreement is between Origin 8 Studios, Williams Lake, British Columbia, Canada (“we”, “us”) and the person or organization named as the licensee on your order (“you”). It applies to every photo and video clip licensed from origin8studios.ca.
1. What you get
When your payment clears, we grant you a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use the licensed file in the ways allowed by the licence type you bought (Standard or Extended). Each file licensed gets its own licence number and certificate. We keep the copyright; you are buying the right to use the file, not the file’s ownership.
Editing is allowed. You may crop, trim, colour-grade, retouch, change the speed of, composite or add text and graphics to the file. For video clips, you may also use still frames taken from the clip, under the same licence and limits.
2. Standard licence
The Standard licence covers almost every everyday use, in any medium:
- Websites, blogs, apps and online portfolios, with unlimited online views
- Social media, including paid and boosted posts
- Advertising and marketing: online and display ads, print ads, brochures, flyers, promotional posters, billboards, trade shows and email
- Presentations, reports and training
- Editorial use: news, magazines, books, documentary and education
- Packaging and labels for your own products, and book and album covers
- Video productions: YouTube and other online video, corporate, event, wedding and real-estate videos, online documentaries and short films, with unlimited online views
- TV broadcast, cinema and subscription streaming-service distribution with an audience of up to 500,000 viewers
- Printed materials up to 500,000 copies in total
Not included: print runs, or TV, cinema and streaming-service audiences, over 500,000, products or templates made for resale (see Extended), and art prints (see section 4).
3. Extended licence
Everything in the Standard licence, plus:
- Unlimited print runs
- Unlimited audiences for film, national TV, theatrical release and streaming
- Products for resale where the photo or clip is part of a larger design, such as calendars, greeting cards, notebooks, mugs and apparel
- Digital templates for resale (website themes, presentation or social media templates), as long as the file can’t be extracted and reused on its own. For video templates (for example After Effects, Premiere, Final Cut or Canva templates), the clip must be rendered into the finished design, not supplied as an editable or separate file
4. What you can’t do (any licence)
- Sell the photo, or a still frame from a video, as an art print or wall art: prints, posters, canvases, framed prints, metal or acrylic prints, or any product where the image itself is what’s being sold as art. Art-print rights are only available by separate agreement; contact us.
- Resell, share, sublicense or give away the file itself, or put it in a stock library, asset pack, NFT or similar where others could obtain the file
- Use or share a video clip on its own, or as the main content of a piece with little else added (for example posting the clip by itself, or selling it as a background loop, screensaver or footage pack). Clips must be part of a larger production.
- Use it in a way that is defamatory, illegal, misleading or pornographic, or that suggests a person or place shown endorses something
- Claim you made it, or register it as a trademark or logo
- Use it to train, fine-tune or build datasets for AI or machine-learning models
5. Client work and teams
You can buy a licence on behalf of a client: put the client’s name as the licensee at checkout and hand over the finished work. The licensee’s employees and contractors (editors, agencies, printers) may use the file for the licensee’s work. One licence can be used across as many projects as the licensee likes, within the limits above.
6. Credit
Credit isn’t required. If you’d like to add one, use “Origin 8 Studios” or “Photo/Video: Origin 8 Studios”.
7. People, property and releases
Our library is landscape and nature focused. If a file shows an identifiable person, private property, a logo or a trademark, the product page will say whether a release is held. Without a release, that file is for editorial use only. Protected places and parks are shown as they appear; check any rules that apply to your own use of a place’s name.
8. Exclusive and custom licences
Need exclusive rights, a buy-out, or use not covered above? Contact us for a quote. Exclusive licences are made by separate written agreement.
9. Refunds
Because files are delivered instantly, sales are final once a file has been downloaded. If a file is faulty or isn’t as described, or you bought the wrong licence or format and haven’t downloaded it, email us within 14 days and we’ll fix it, swap it or refund you. A refunded licence is cancelled and the file may no longer be used.
10. Warranty and liability
We confirm we own the rights needed to grant this licence. If someone makes a claim against you that your permitted use of a file infringes their rights, tell us promptly and we will work with you to resolve it. Beyond that, files are provided as they are, and our total liability for any claim related to a licence is limited to the amount you paid for it.
11. Ending the licence
The licence continues forever unless it is refunded or you break these terms. If it ends, stop using the file in new work and delete your copies. Work you already published under a valid licence can stay published, except when the licence ended for non-payment or misuse.
12. General
You can’t transfer a licence to someone else except as part of handing over client work (section 5). This agreement is governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Prices are in Canadian dollars; GST/HST and, for video bought in BC, PST are added at checkout where they apply. You can check any licence number on our Verify a Licence page.
