Last updated: September 2026. Origin 8 Studios (“we”) is based in Williams Lake, British Columbia, Canada. This policy explains what personal information origin8studios.ca collects, why, and what we do with it. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and BC’s Personal Information Protection Act.

What we collect

• When you license a photo or clip: your name, email address, country and province/state, and (if you enter them) a licensee name and project name. We also keep the order details: what you bought, the price, the tax charged and the date.
• Payments are handled by Square. Your card details go straight to Square and are never stored on our website. We receive a transaction reference and the last few digits of the card.
• Downloads: when you download a file, our file server records the time, the file and your IP address, to prevent abuse and to help if a download fails.
• Contact form: the name, email and message you send us.
• Security: like most websites, our server and security software record IP addresses and browser details to block attacks and spam.

Why we use it

• To process your order, deliver your files and issue your licence certificate
• To calculate and report sales tax (GST/HST/PST), which depends on your province or country
• To let anyone confirm a licence is genuine on our Verify page (only the licence number, type, file and a partly hidden licensee name are shown)
• To answer your questions and provide support
• To keep the website secure

We don’t sell or rent your information, and we don’t send marketing email unless you ask us to.

Who we share it with

Only the services needed to run the store: Square (payments), our web host (GreenGeeks), our email provider, and our bookkeeper and accountant for tax records. Some of these providers may store data outside Canada, where it is subject to local law. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Cookies

We use only the cookies the site needs to work: to remember your cart and checkout, to keep you signed in if you have an account, and to remember that you’ve dismissed the cookie notice. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

Order and licence records are kept for as long as your licence exists, and at least six years, because the Canada Revenue Agency requires us to keep sales records. Download and security logs are kept for up to one year. Contact messages are kept as long as needed to deal with your request.

Your choices

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete what we’re not required to keep. Email hello@origin8studios.ca and we’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
